Nothing today is as good as the superglue that was available 20 years ago. I don't know what happened to it, but it's considerably less aggressive and weaker.
I suspect that it is totally a legal matter. People tend to glue their fingers together. Duh. So the manufacturers added "filler" to reduce that tendency. Lawsuits? Fear of lawsuits?
So nowadays, you have to hold the pieces together for the glue to set, and sometimes it takes so long your fingers stick together anyway.

You may as well just get the cheap packs at the Dollar store instead of the expensive brand names.

I use the Gorilla brand super-glue. It has a form of rubber in the mix that helps it withstand shock impact better; I've noticed the difference, too, on the *ahem* rare times when I am clumsy with a figure.

I've also recently switched to Gorilla brand. I find that it works much better than the more inexpensive brands.

Yes, I use Gorilla glue now.

It works better than other stuff I've tried, and Tesco sell it so it's incredibly easy to get hold of.

(For our non-UK based friends, Tesco is our largest supermarket chain and has branches everywhere…)

I used the Chinese super glue Walmart carried until two years ago. Four yellow and black tubes, $1.64 USD. Best ever. Then they stopped carrying it so I got whatever they replaced it with and while it works its not as good as the Chinese stuff. Tried Gorilla glue and couldn't tell any difference except the cost.

Zap-a-Gap has been very disappointing in whatever they heck they've done to the formula. I think I'll try that Gorilla Glue

Agreed on the Walmart yellow/black. Used to buy 20 at a time. Finally found a good sub for their primer too.

The best (for me ) super glue I've had was a cheep one from a discount store but they stocked it fror a short time. Since then the cheep ones available wre not worth having so quality brands are what I use these days.

I find the cheap ones just as good for the purposes I use the stuff. If the expensive one is twice as strong I'm not likely to notice.

I'm screwed no matter which I choose. I'm severely allergic to any sort of super glue. A small whiff is enough to set my nose running like a river and more can give me coughing fits. The only way I dare us it is with an exhaust fan and another fan blowing any fumes away from and toward the exhaust. I tend to use epoxy with blue tac to hold the parts in place while it sets.

Scott, I have a very strong sensitivity too that has only gotten worse over the years. I've got a 3M half-mask respirator with P100 filters that does the trick. I keep it in a ziplock bag when I'm not using it, and that really extends the life of the filters.

My eyes still water a bit, but I avoid the running nose and sneezing fits that can last for a couple of days.

It depends upon what you use it for. For most hobby applications they are about the same. For instrument repairs or lens seating then you'll need Loctite 444 (also great for tacking white metal in place until you get epoxy on the join) or other brand equivalent.
