Oh? We're allowed to vote for vehicles?
My choice would be a resin cast Pirate ship.
For figures alone, it would be a Blood and Plunder Blackbeard.

doubleones30 Aug 2024 3:57 a.m. PST

Yeah, 28mm vehicles can be pricey but I don't often refer to them as "figures."

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP30 Aug 2024 4:05 a.m. PST

No idea. Probably a single figure from the UK with postage and handling--as an indulgence because I didn't really need anything. What sort of armies are you guys building that you'd spend upwards of $20 USD on single figures?

hehehe … oops! not my poll.

im the last one to discuss paying a lot for figures. The figure in question (looked it up) is a howdah outfitted war mammoth. I would pay a dollar or two for a thrift store elephant toy, and another half dollar in brown paint, glue flock, black wash (he's a mammoth now), and craft sticks and left over cross stitch floss. I am guessing GW sells it for more than that.

In absolute fairness to GW, eto, I saw that Oliphaunt of theirs in a shop once. It was maybe the size of a 28mm brig, with a crew to match. I'd have counted it as a vehicle rather than a figure.

I hate being fair to GW.

About $60 USD for a big bomber in Wings of Glory.

The Last Conformist30 Aug 2024 6:34 a.m. PST

A Wings of Glory bomber was presumably not purchased unpainted?

I've got a couple Zeppelin-Staakens for WoG, and they're the most expensive gaming models I've got, but they're prepaints.

Most expensive single unpainted figure I've got is probably a Citadel wyvern bought way back in the 1990s.

Hedging philosophical definitions here, I went with $20. USD

The poll question does say models. Not counting vehicle models of tanks and things, I've paid more than $10 USD for some 3" mecha in the old Battledroids scale that the kids play as BattleTech now with smaller scale figures. Though I've picked up most of them for ~$3-5.

I may have paid more than $10 USD for a metal figure of something, but wasn't a brain cell worth saving for the price tag.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Joe Legan30 Aug 2024 8:29 a.m. PST

I thought a figure was anything I put down on the table and move into harms way. I paid $50 USD for a warlords flakship and 1/300 scale German minesweeper. Great figures.

At Historicon a serval years ago there was a outfit that was scanning heads and printing them on the figure of you had picked, from their stock. I think it was 30-50 dollars, I remembered thinking at the time this was kind of over the top as what they did say up front, was you don't get the fig right away to take home with you, it's mailed to you and there was a mailing fee.

I commissioned a line of fantasy gangsters. It came to cost $250 USD per figure. So, those are my most expensive figures or individual figure.

I'd forgotten those, dapters! Got Napoleonic French and ACW both sides in 28 and 54mm. Tricorn, too? (They never did Napoleonic British.) First year, they were supposed to measure early in the convention and deliver before we left, but either the printer was slow or they did more business than expected. And since they now had your measurements in their system, you could buy more later--except that they wandered off into 28mm F&SF and were never heard of again.

The catch was that it turns out unless your face is really remarkable, your command casting isn't recognizable in 28mm. I showed immediate family 28mm and got no response. In 54mm, they got it. But not that many 54mm armies these days.

Picked $10 USD or less but even that doesn't come close :-)

I've a pack of oxen, got 5 in a bag for £2.00 GBP

I picked US$30.00 for my Mithril Balrog, it may have been less. Currently it's US$178.00 on the Mithril site.

I'm sure any ancients player will have an elephant that cost more than 10 dollars ?

Col Durnford Supporting Member of TMP31 Aug 2024 12:31 p.m. PST

When I think single figure it's single human sized figure. I selected $20 USD, but it was closer to $15.00 USD

One of the few GW figures in my collection. Add to that, it was purchased well over 30 years ago. I saw it in Colpar hobbies in Lakewood CO.

It was a really nice Banshee. Never even looked at the price, when they rang it up, I took a deep breath and dug out the cash.

My 25mm Hudson & Allen Alamo model, which I bought decades ago and cost, I dunno, over a hundred or two smackers at the time, and then I had to spend a solid year painting it. link I still own it, it takes up a tremendous amount of storage space in three large heavy plastic bins, and I've only been able to use it or parts of it a handful of times and never in a strictly historical setting (I do have historical Texian and Mexican 20mm plastic armies bought and [mostly] painted for it), and as an accurate model or practical wargaming set it has serious flaws and liabilities. But it was the best I could find at the time. More the fool I, eh?

$20 USD plus for a vehicle – the most expensive piece in my collection is a 54mm figure of Baron Larrey, given to me by my parents when I graduated uni – custom made and about $1,000 USD CDN, but most certainly never used for gaming!

I assumed "figure" meant just that— a figure (as a person or creature, even if imaginary). Mine are all cheap.

But if ships count, I've got a Handley/Page bomber for Wings of Glory. Got it on a deep discount, but I don't recall the amount. Ditto for a Mon Calamari Transport for X-wing, and an Imperial Assault Carrier— it's big enough to carry four TIE fighter models into combat. Got these on sale, too. Don't recall what I paid.

Everything else came from trades or lot purchases where the figs came with the game, so hard to place an exact value on the figs.

If we are going "everything" then all I can say is:

Reaper.

"Sophies Revenge"

Price it.

I have one sitting on my shelf.

Zephyr105 Sep 2024 3:24 p.m. PST

I have the 28mm GW all-metal SM Thunderhawk gunship kit. Let's say mid- to high- 3 figure price tag. Don't know when I'll get around to building it… ;-)
