Well, since you have a Star Wars job on the list, I'd add Jedi. And Knight Hopitaller would be cool.

langobard29 Aug 2016 3:03 a.m. PST

I grew up wanting to be either a ninja or a nazgul, all the others are pretty much second best options, though perhaps Hurricane pilot in the Battle of Britain would be, umm. I can't think of an appropriate word…

I am a consienious objector. I object to being shot at.

On reflection, I suspect 'terrifying' would be a good word for a Hurricane pilot. Still, it is a great dream…

OOB analyst. Ideally high enough up to get permanent buildings and regular hours and far enough away from the hot topic du jour that no one argues about the politics. After that, Pentagon watch NCO.

You could get killed on most of those jobs. The working conditions are usually poor, and they don't pay very well.

skippy000129 Aug 2016 6:11 a.m. PST

Modern infantryman because my health would be waaay better just to qualify.
Jet Fighter Pilot-F20 Tigershark….screaming on the deck.
WWII Paratrooper-w/M2 autocarbine, dropping on Berlin…hoping a Russian Katyusha doesn't splatter me.
Roman Legionnaire so I can march everyone into the ground.
Ideally: Think Tank Contingency Planner with full classified access past and present.

When I was in the army I met a E-7 who said that he was a member of the Army's skeet team and a friend of mine in high school after Navy radio school was assigned to a radio station in the town where we grew up. My definition of tit duty.

Already been an ACW "cannoneer". It is a hot and exhausting job. When I was on the line (#2 man at the front of the gun) I worked for about 30-45 minutes…the average length of an ACW re-enactment…and found it absolutely exhausting. While it was "fun" at the time, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do this for hours on end during a battle. Not exactly a dream of mine.

For the record, no military job would ever be a "dream" for me.

brass129 Aug 2016 7:21 a.m. PST

Combat Demolition Specialist. This is the job I actually had in the army and I must admit I really, really liked blowing things up.

Peripheral to current military, North Wales Military Aviation Services still have my CV if they ever get an opening for an Avionics tech. It would be nice to wind up my working life maintaining the same sorts of aircraft that I started on.

The guys in mess hall never seemed particularly stressed out.

Old, crusty, retired consultant.

Sir Walter Rlyeh29 Aug 2016 10:13 a.m. PST

I put a vote in for modern infantry since I became an 11-B when I was seventeen. I would have added Crusader or Mongol Horseman. I always wanted to sack a city!

Mithmee29 Aug 2016 1:07 p.m. PST

Commander in Chief

But Amazon Warrior would work as well.

Hafen von Schlockenberg29 Aug 2016 1:37 p.m. PST

You left out Quartermaster, sweet job in most armies in history. Retire rich!

As far as "could get you killed" jobs, I guess for me it would be a tossup between Klingon and Maori. Either one could offer some fun.

My dream job would be AAR historian at a bunch of Ancient battles. What great green books I could write! Oh,and authority to order them engraved on stone, for Modern Me to dig up,settling a lot of arguments.

Ragbones29 Aug 2016 2:20 p.m. PST

I served 34 years in the DoD in my dream job as Senior Analyst and Subject Matter Expert for policy makers at the White House, JCS, U&S Commands, NSC and the IC.

Jamesonsafari29 Aug 2016 2:56 p.m. PST

Armour carrier and tea wallah for the queen of the Amazon's.

Where's the Highland choices? I have a sneaking regret to have missed the chance to serve as a Jacobite clan captain in the '45 rebellion, even though it will end badly.

And no one is volunteering to stand again in defense of the Alamo, eh? Or ride with Custer? ;-)

Who asked this joker29 Aug 2016 4:00 p.m. PST

Where is the option for naked Celtic warrior? Now THAT would be a dream military job!

Private Matter29 Aug 2016 5:33 p.m. PST

My selections were based on my interest in their historical period. I had my dream job in the Marines and the scares that it produced.

Personal logo piper909 Supporting Member of TMP29 Aug 2016 6:54 p.m. PST

I almost, almost signed up for either a Highland regiment or the Scots Guards back in 1978 -- those had been dream jobs for a while before. Other obligations got in my way then. But in a parallel universe….

Bunkermeister Supporting Member of TMP29 Aug 2016 7:44 p.m. PST

I was a Captain in the US Army Reserve in the Cold War, in Military Intelligence branch. I really liked it and I was good at it.

A friend of mine was sent to graduate school in preparation to work as a researcher in history in the US Army. I would have liked that job too, I think.

Armor officer would have been good too, M60 series tanks.

I have had several military dream jobs in my career.

Being a Commander is always great, so both Company and Battalion. Been a Paratrooper in the 82d and Special Ops. have been a G3 (plans/operations/training) twice, and the best job I had was that of a Military Historian.

Most of the options given were interesting and I chose a few of those and then "other" as I got to do much of what I wanted to do in the service.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP30 Aug 2016 5:50 a.m. PST

Three choices for helicopter jockeys and not one tread-head – I am outraged!

Seriously, how about tank commander? Risky but at least your feet are close to Mother Earth plus unless there is some magic way to fix my vision I am never going to pass the eye test

Tactical analyst and strategic planner appeal as well

Plus of course military historian

And then there is combat doc – since I am medically qualifed

marcus arilius30 Aug 2016 9:02 a.m. PST

David Hinkley30 Aug 2016 12:31 p.m. PST

WillieB31 Aug 2016 4:26 p.m. PST

Been in the armed services for several years and one of the 'dream jobs' mentioned here was exactly what I did. I can say for certain it wasn't a dream job. But I was proud of doing it.

But a job as a professional wargamer appeals to me as well( but it won't be at the Pentagon)grin

Irish Marine01 Sep 2016 6:39 a.m. PST

One of my picks was "other" So I would have been a Raider with the US Marine Corps in WW2.
