To just attend I would not really plan much at all beyond knowing where the local sources of food would be. |

Depends when and where so, anywhere from less than a day to up to a year. |

Other: maybe two months. Depends on how early I'd need to get hotel reservations. Since I'm now retired, I don't have to worry about arranging vacation time. |

Other: Pre-registration and hotel room, whenever it seems best to do so— that could be 3 months out or less. Maybe a week ahead I'll plan out meals (not a big fan of convention/hotel food, especially since I can't control salt amounts or ingredients— one time I ate some perfectly reasonable fried fish— I thought— only to have a pretty significant negative reaction to something in the fish. Not dangerous, but extremely discomfiting. Never again!) As for the actual convention— which games to attend, etc.— I may look at the final PEL the day before to pick possible games to at least consider. But the decision will happen on the day of. |

I figure as soon as the date is announced, it's on the calendar to make sure medical, bank and family stuff doesn't unnecessarily wipe it out. Car is serviced for long trips. Room is reserved as soon as they'll let me, as is registration--despite HMGS' opposition. Everything for which I can secure paperwork, the paperwork goes in a folder in the trip bag. Flea market prep continues all year round, but picks up around scheduled convention dates. Wroking tonight on Fall In castings. Waiting can turn some otherwise solvable problem into a crisis. |
