From Flower to Sapling?

Can a plastic flower become a wargaming shrub? Or maybe a small tree?

I'll tell you what it isn't – Tomorrowland.

And really not Project Almanac!!

Lots of great choices here.

There are others that I like a lot that I suspect will show up in the later letters of the alphabet

Blade Runner is one of my favourite films period – sci-fi or otherwise

Story, acting, scenery, atmosphere, cinematography … on and on. Concur with Fredrick on this one!

I only found four really good ones, and opted for 20,000 Leagues as my 5th, over Avatar.

Surprised a bit that Avatar isn't rating higher, given all the hype over the movie, and its blockbuster sales. Perhaps it is just getting off to a slow start.

Avatar didn't make my top 5 on this list.

Blade Runner did, 2001, and Alien, but then picked two lesser ones to fill out the five votes.

Avatar still didn't make it.

Glad to see Dark City on this list. That was a relatively recent discovery of mine (Director's Cut). It often looks just like recurring nightmares I have long had about shifting cityscapes and melting topography.

Some great oldies:

Flash Gordon Serials

Invaders from Mars (original)

Forbidden Planet

War of the Worlds (original)

Where's Children of Men?

Glad to see Dark City on this list.

I didn't like Dark City at first, but it grew on me (for me, this is a common reaction). I would recommend it highly, but if you haven't already seen it, look for the Director's Cut; the theatrical version has a voice-over that explains the big revelation of the plot right away.

Avatar is pretty to look at, but not really compelling as scifi or, you know, narratively, as a well-written movie.

I can easily see Aliens and Blade Runner taking the number one slot for this whole shebang. Both are really good and really popular. I'd give Blade Runner the edge, just because I think it tells a more interesting story.

my "Other" movie – Battle: Los Angeles
