En Garde is more of a board game skirmish.

I guess it depends on what version of En Garde! you/they are asking about. I assumed (perhaps, wrongly) that it was for the 1970s GDW game, which is a roleplaying game.

I recall it to be more like a solitaire role play…build a life ,join a regiment,train,campaign and gamble while acquiring status and promotion.Dont forget the duels along the way…and of course-"May your swash,never buckle !"

Yes the one from the 1970s was certainly RPG. You could advance through combat, could make money and gain status and fought a number of duels. Wish I still had my copy.
