The quintessential Sherlock Holmes

This should have been a clue on who was the best.

He set the bar for everyone else and only Jeremy has come close.

Agreed. Basil was entertaining. But as far as the writing, acting, sets and look this series sets a standard that nobody has yet equalled or surpassed. . I do not believe there is anyone who compares with Jeremy Brett and his show. The depth of that series covering so many of Doyle's works is 2nd to none! There others that are good that I do enjoy though. Recently reread all of the Holmes stories. Just a great read!

Thanks

John

John, that wasn't the question asked. If the poll had been which was the best Holmes SERIES, it would have been the Granada Holmes (with Brett) going away. In that sense, Brett had it easy. Rathbone rarely got the level of support Brett had every time.

And I'll repeat my earlier whine about the omission of radio drama. Apart from missing two first-rate actors, it leaves Rathbone without any credit for his years of playing Holmes for Mutual Broadcasting.

Hi Robert. I understand that. But like it or not the query is who IS the Best Homes. Writing, acting, supporting actors, sets and costuming all have an impact on that IMHO. The newer movies feature Robert Downey Jr as Holmes. Downey is a decent actor. The sets and costuming were good. The writing was not. I believe that plays a part of WHO is the best. Of course ymmv.

Thanks.

What? No regard at all for Johnny Lee Miller?
