"Fantasy Books/Shorts That Deserve a Movie or TV Series (Round 1B)" Topic

I couldn't do it. Rosenberg's "Keepers of the Flame" are an excellent series, well-suited for serial television, but I couldn't vote for it. It's literally Hollywood's favorite stunt: "let's bring modern sensibilities into a different world and show how morally superior modern California is."

Rosenberg could pull it off without being smug and grating, but he's dead.

I'd love to see Half Magic as a children's movie that respects the novel (unlikely these days, alas)— pure child wish-fulfillment story (literally… or half literally). Rich in heart and humor. (I probably suggested this one in the original discussion). The other Eager books would be fun as well.

I only found a total of four, including KotF… but that only reflects my opinion of this particular list, not what I might favor as it gets whittled down. (And I agree with Robert that modern Hollywood couldn't handle KotF well at all. If it could be done well and right, I'd be for it. But that's a big "could.")

I voted for a few "stories" that I loved.
Alas, Horrywood would mess them up horribly.
No point in naming them. We all know how seriously the world takes TMP polls! So I don't want to encourage them.

Funny thing. 25 years ago, Peter Jackson did The Lord of the Rings. I'm actually fine with the few things he "changed" that the usual suspects get their knickers in a knot over. BUT in an interview he acknowledged that it was their intent to not change at all Tolkien's world view. In other words, no "update for modern audiences".
The creators of Rings of Power had no such qualms. They openly bragged about "updating".

I recall seeing a UK TV series on Gormenghast a long while back, early 90s maybe? It wasn't memorable enough for me to remember much at all about it. Sort of cheap-looking, dark production.

And that is why Rings of Power sucks!

I watched The Martian Chronicles series with great hope but it utterly failed to impress me. That's another one I'd love to see done up right.
