Recruit me? You make it sound as if I ever left. Wouldn't. Couldn't. Napoleonics were my gateway drug into wargaming and remain my favourite period. Every so often I get distracted by another era, but eventually the drums start beating, the cavalry trumpets sound, and I'm back painting yet another French battalion. |

My main love has always been Ancients. To get me into Napoleonics someone would have to give me at least two armies, ready painted. Then again, I have declined to participate in Napoleonic games at my local club where all would have been provided, and I recently turned down several Rennaissance armies for free. I don't need another rabbit hole to go down !! |

I COULD be converted, perhaps even building up both sides for a particular battle/area/time period. For me the painting of the uniforms appears to be a pretty high activation hurdle, though I imagine I would improve over time just as I have with other periods/uniforms I have attempted. Since I have painted pea-dot camouflage for WWII Germans this may be a poor excuse! |

You would somehow have to overcome my near total indifference to Napoleonics. I bought, painted and sold 15mm British. Twice. Because I wasn't really interested. But when it comes up in the rotation in our group, I'll certainly play with others' toys. |

I was brought up in Napoleonics and inherited my dad's 7000+ figure collection. I am planning on setting up a battle sometime later this month. Should I be offended by the "Better Players"? |

You can't! I'll play, but I will not buy, paint or create a Napoleonic army. Sold my soul to ancients. |

What would it take? A time machine to go back in time so I'd have enough time to paint an army. At 63, I'm loathe to start painting it. |

Consistent local interest. No use getting into it if I don't have someone to play it with on some sort of regular basis. I'm actually supposed to try a Napoleonics game during the summer, but the guy that's I'm supposed to play it with is the sort who has a new major project every 2nd week, so relying on him to provide regular opportunities to play anything particular is risky, so for me to collect something of mine own would require more people going for it. |

Agree with Dagwood. If I somehow got two painted armies, I would play. But the era is so vast with so many different countries and so many different types of troops and uniforms that I just don't see myself ever getting into it. I did do War of 1812, that is the closest I will come. |

It's just too vast a period. MAYBE if I was 21 again. |

I did years ago and after so many iterations of rules I sold off and now do some early Republic games. |

I am with Ochoin on this As to the very reasonable question by Blackhorse MP, slice out what you will be most interested in – while I have been gaming Napoleonics for a long time, my armies are only Central Europe, 1809-1814, i.e. French, Austrian and Russian with a sprinkling of Prussians – no Brits or Spanish; there is another chap in the group who does them |

Raynman, how much does a wargamer's soul go for these days? And what were you paid in? Obols? Darics? Lepta? |
