It makes no difference to me, the dice gods hate me no matter what the dice look like.

Non Irn Bru10 Feb 2012 6:48 a.m. PST

16mm without the pips please

D6 Junkie10 Feb 2012 7:10 a.m. PST

Pips!

Ditto Tango 2 310 Feb 2012 7:14 a.m. PST

but now it's exclusively numbered dice.

Every department store I enter has dice with pips????

Hmm, must be a local thing where Broadsword lives-- I haven't ever seen anybody using numbered D6s either here in NC or at any of the HMGS cons I go to. It's pipiquitous round here!

Numbers are a desperate attempt to appease those unable to count.

I buy my D6 at Dollar Tree. 6 differently colored dice for a buck. Pippers, every one of them.

Angel Barracks10 Feb 2012 8:05 a.m. PST

Numbers?
We don't want no stiiiiiiinking numbers.

Scott Kursk10 Feb 2012 9:24 a.m. PST

Numbers on a D6? Do you know who likes written numbers on their D6? Hitler?! Yeah, so sure you may hate pips but you are a fascist if you do.

But then again I was quoting Wikipedia so it may or may not be entirely accurate.

sneakgun10 Feb 2012 10:25 a.m. PST

Smeagol loves the numbers but Gollum hates them, they are a Bagginses plot!

Jeremy Sutcliffe10 Feb 2012 11:51 a.m. PST

It's the colours that can matter.
If I'm playing ACW, I use blue and grey dice
If it's WOTR then Red and White, FPW blue and black
7YW then it's red British, black Prussian, white French/austrian, green russian.

You get the idea.

NobleHero10 Feb 2012 12:42 p.m. PST

It doesn't matter to me either way as long as it is consistent. I can't roll numbered dice and pipped dice together in the same roll.

Non Irn Bru10 Feb 2012 2:59 p.m. PST

NobleHero makes a good point. Can you get a D10 or D12 with pips? No? I rest my case.

ochoin deach10 Feb 2012 3:03 p.m. PST

What, no Roman numerals option?

Sure whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it's with a set of RPG dice, then I prefer Arabic numerals, for consistency, but for a handful of d6s for wargaming I prefer pips and in the 12mm size, not 16mm.. 16mm are too big.

Pips, but that's because our game uses pips as an integral part of the mechanic.

Florida Tory11 Feb 2012 6:04 a.m. PST

Pips. It all about the pattern recognition for a fast read of the die facets.

So I'm the only one who goes for appropriate colours?

skippy000111 Feb 2012 8:22 a.m. PST

It's not the dice, it's what you roll.

Given up for good11 Feb 2012 12:35 p.m. PST

Pips for me

Saying that though I have not seen an average dice with pips – is this a new niche market I should exploit?

(No I have not looked for these at dice shops on the net)

So I'm the only one who goes for appropriate colours?

Well, again, as an artifact of the game we play the most, yes. Having theme colors for the dice makes it very easy to know which ones go with which figures.

Beyond that, yes, I think it helps evoke the mindset (and makes it more fun) to use, say, green dice when playing the Incredible Hulk, and a nice set of WWII Q-Workshop dice when playing a Von Ryan's Express game. I also have a few sets of very stylized Iron Dice (triangular pips!) simply because they are cool. These concerns compete with finite finances.

WarpSpeed12 Feb 2012 12:43 p.m. PST

I prefer my D6s with a shield upgrade and with the D6D drone rack modifications.Sorry the StarFleet Battles moment seized me.

Non Irn Bru12 Feb 2012 4:46 p.m. PST

So I'm the only one who goes for appropriate colours?

Well I make visiting players roll white dice. As the home team I roll red.

WarpSpeed12 Feb 2012 7:55 p.m. PST

Everybody uses the same dice, small tub of them courtesy of the dollar store and 90 plus Avalon Hill/GDW/SPI wargames in the closet.

Must have misunderstood the original post. I've got nothing against my D6's. I like all my D6's equally, they're all just fine.

Eric
