I love Apollo 13. Heroic nerd geniuses, short sleeved white shirts, crew cuts and pocket protectors.
Great cast. Especially Jim Lovell's mom (played by Ron Howard's mom!) talking to Neil Armstrong. "Are you boys with the Space Program?"
"If they could get a washing machine to fly, my Jimmy could land it!"
Flawless direction.
A perfect movie in all respects.
A true story, made by and for hero worshippers. 👍

We loved Apollo 13 in the theatres on original release and continue to rewatch it on home video to this day, probably every year. An enduring regret was that I did not force myself to drive across the city to the opposite fringes (lived in Austin then) at rush hour to attend a book signing of Jim Lovell's "Lost Moon" book. It was a blistering hot day and I just couldn't face hours in the car and that traffic. The Lovells lived a little west of Austin at that time in the Hill Country. I missed my chance to meet my favorite astronaut from the space program due to sheer laziness.

I did shake hands with Buzz Aldrin, years later, during an appearance at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, where I worked at the time. But he wasn't signing any autographs by then. EBay resale hustlers had caused a lot of celebrities to refuse autograph requests from all and sundry, even long-time admirers who still had all their vintage books and memorabilia to show their bona fides.

This year, I caught the anniversary IMAX release of Apollo 13. Still a great movie, and front row center in the IMAX for the Saturn liftoff — Holy Cowabunga!
