"Is Your Way to Play Wargames the Only Proper Way?" Topic

Very curious to read what the 'old grumps' are going to write.

No, of course not. UshCha's way is the only proper way--he's told us so repeatedly--and his is not how I play. QED.

If it's any comfort, I often feel that particular combinations of rules, miniatures and battles don't work well together, and that not all rules are equally likely to produce a game without arguments and finish in the alloted time. But mostly when I don't play something it's a matter of taste.

Just about anything goes. But not 28mm WW2.

I play to enjoy myself. That is indeed the only proper way. There is no other way.

OFM, in the Army--and once or twice as a contractor--I played wargames because they paid me, and it was a job requirement. Are you saying I committed an impropriety? (How can I have? The checks cleared, after all!)

Please note that I started this tongue in cheek Poll Suggestion almost a full year ago. 😄
So it has nothing to do with a current… situation.
Unless it does, and Dear Editor has a warped sense of humor.

Other = it is not the only proper way, it is just the best of all possible ways (to paraphrase a famous satirist).

Grattan, I notice that in the pre-poll discussion, someone predicted a 3% "Yes" vote, so clearly your vote was necessary.

And not only vas I only followink orders, I saw and knew nossink. (Recently came to my attention that when "Hogan's Heroes" was dubbed into German, Commandant von Klink spoke with a Prussian Accent and Sgt Schultz a Bavarian one. A pity there was no way to do that in the original.)

Even better: Klink had Swabian, Schulz Bavarian, Hochstetter was the Prussian!

One time in Montreal, I almost bought the French dubbed version of Conan the Barbarian until I sorted out that they didn't use a voice actor who spoke French with an Austrian accent.

I just play with people who play as I do.

When I started out "the only proper way" was in a suit and tie. That's based on all the articles I saw. So, guess I never had played the proper way.
