I surprised that the Seven Years War counts as "not popular".

TLC,

I know several people who dislike the period because of slow movement rates in rules systems (restricted to marching in line). One gentleman even hissed at me and made the sign of the cross when I suggested a SYW gaming day, lol.

Wait just a few more years, and everything later than about the French Wars of Religion and earlier than 1919 will be "not popular." (Might have to carve out an exception for Western Gunfight?)

Effectively, for land warfare there will be
Fantasy
Fantasy-adjacent (Dark Ages through FWOR)
"Pulp"
Science Fiction
Science Fiction-adjacent (WWII and forward. Or, as we say "Kill Team Historical.")

No mode of warfare not intuitive to the modern movie-goer will rate above 6th place.

And it turns out I didn't need those "few more years." Here's the Great Wargaming Survey for 2024.

As you can see, even though they split up fantasy, SF and my "fantasy-adjacent" into two categories each, only the classical world (Ancients to 500 AD) and Napoleonics rate in the top ten.

Lumping them as I described, in 2024 it was
1) SF
2)Fantasy
3) WW2
4) Fantasy-adjacent
5) Napoleonics
6) Pulp

Close enough for TMP comments.
