A good list. Probably seven I could have voted for. I really ought to have nominated Niven & Pournelle's Oath of Fealty, though.

And I think the next round will be more interesting than the ultimate winner. By then we should have a sort of "best in breed" for each subgenre, which is about as far as this goes logically. You can legitimately claim both 1984 and Princess of Mars as "SF novels" but while you can prefer one to the other as a matter of taste, I think the objectives of the writers are too far apart to say that one's better than the other. Princess of Mars vs Lost World or 1984 vs Handmaid's Tale would be fair fights, if you will.

I deliberately refrained from voting for one choice because I met the author years and he was a total jerk. Naming no names in this poll discussion, but I have told the story here before, in the past.
I vowed to never buy any of his books since then, probably deriving him if at least $2 USD in royalties. That'll show him!
Harrumph.
Before anyone calls me out on that, mind your own business. All such polls are totally subjective, and I can vote any way I want.

Other than that, my initial tally was 6, but I had to drop one, sadly.
Strange that I can choose "all of the above", but I can't choose 6. 😄
I'm going to have to try voting for "all of the above" and "none of the above" in some future poll. Throw in "not my cuppa tea" also.
