I suppose I SHOULD be worried, but there's a finite number of things I can worry about, let alone control. I suppose it's like asking the Man in the Streets of Nagasaki in May of 1945 if he's worried about Russia developing the hydrogen bomb. |

To quote a famous philosopher: "What, me worry?" It's not like this is a new warfare tactic. Britain did a bang-up job of cutting Germany's cables in 1914 for tremendous strategic value. |

Communication is the life blood of modern civilization. Once it breaks, the other elements of society stop working. Once the information and money stops flowing, everything stops. A couple of cables cut would be an inconvenience but could be worked around. All cables cut would create a disaster Pipelines have a similar cascading effect, but not as drastic in most cases. (Islands being a huge exception – ie -Great Britain and Hawaii) The Nord Stream cutoff caused problems but did not create any important economic or political changes to the countries involved. Germany did create a $65 USDbn relief package to offset the increased cost of energy. The countries affected had to import LNG from other places at a higher cost. |
