25-35mm is my general preference for skirmish games. At a con or not doesn't really make a difference. |

Agree with TLC. Also in a con, 28mm is the scale at which you can walk into the room and immediately see what's going on. Smaller scales have to be looked at (15mm) or sometimes looked at and then worked out (6mm). Appearance is more important in a con--especially in a large con. |

like the Last Conformist sez – also as per Robert anything less than 28mm is too small for skirmish, and anything larger typically has less variety/availability |
