A spectacular run of stories this time. But am I correct in remembering Drake's "Rolling Hot" as a short story collection rather than a short story? This seems to happen frequently on TMP. Now, if "The Butcher's Bill" or "The Tank Lords" had been there, picking my top five would have been even harder. |

Nice to see Piper on the list and especially Lois Bujold! She is my absolute favorite author. A shame more people don't know about her. |

the story in question from Lois Bujold is one of the more compelling short stories i have read. More of a murder mystery set in her vorkosigan universe, it really hit home how people can think when they have suffered greatly. |

Robert, Rolling Hot is a single story in the Slammer's anthology book I have. That's one of my favorites from Drake. |

For those of you who have read The Road Not Taken by Turtledove, it is a short but masterful story |

I sit corrected, jtkimmel. Remembered the story when I consulted my set, but had forgotten the title. And I see I already voted for "The Butcher's Bill" in a previous round. (My memory didn't fail me totally: there is a Drake book of that title.) Are there people who don't know about Bujold? We must find those people and correct the situation. |

One of only two Piper stories that are "typical Astounding/ANALOG" science puzzle stories, and arguably the best, though we have to look past the whole Martian thing :) Good to see it still gets love. |
