You know, for this one "none of these" really isn't the same as "no opinion."

For me, our response to the red death has had no positive features, and there is no aspect I will miss.

I will, however, mention the part I miss the least. That's people with jobs, VTC capability and regular contact with other people telling me "we're in this together."

If you put everything into plus or minus columns I think the minuses will win. It seems with this every plus has a minus aspect. I'm a fairly optimistic person but this has been an uphill battle that's not yet over but yes I've only done the dishes 3-4 times since March.

I expected to see a picture of a Playmate in a thong bikini wearing a facemask & painting minis when I clicked on this topic.

My job was "critical" so I wasn't in lock down, but the complete lack of traffic for a month was good.

Another essential worker here, Nothing changed workwise for me other than not having my weekly hour in the office.

Micman Supporting Member of TMP02 Dec 2020 12:16 p.m. PST

I was able to claim essential status and the traffic was great for about 2 months but it is back to normal now.

I will be very happy when shopping normalizes.

General Kirchner02 Dec 2020 4:20 p.m. PST

not on your life will i miss anything about this.

I work every day but its been made way more difficult, its caused innumerable problems in the supply chain and workforce on my projects.
business development efforts are a joke right now.

Personally I had 3 people for thanksgiving because we were quarantined, and have barely seen my new granddaughter who was born in July let alone getting to spend time with her older siblings, which is one of the joys of my life.

I am so sick of this whole thing, and never want to see anything like it again.

empty shelves, stress, loneliness and sadness.

what could possible compensate for any of that?

Like SpuriousMilius, I was half expecting some NSFW miniatures from Tango when I saw the title Miss Lockdown.

Seriously, though, there have been a few, just a few, upsides. Mostly, it is down. I was days away from exchanging contracts on a house sale when the UK lockdown was sprung on us. It cost me the transaction, months and thousands (with no plus side at all) … all my Shows and events cancelled – and this year I was really pleased to volunteer to take my godddaughter to Rugby matches but …

Then again, I'm still here (which makes me one of the lucky ones), and, despite the frustrations, I am (in all senses, I guess) sufficiently resilient to take the knocks (so that must make me doubly lucky) ..

Mostly I will miss the not commuting – but as noted above I will most certainly be happy to be able to see family more often!

I am also an essential worker, so life hasn't changed much for me and, what has changed has not been for the better. I will not miss anything about it.

COL Scott ret03 Dec 2020 11:47 p.m. PST

Also essential, so the almost no traffic for a month while we "flattened the curve" was best.

-I have had several friends and relatives get sick and recover.
-I lost an Aunt to it, she did have lots of preexisting conditions she didn't take precautions at a large get together and refused treatment.
-My workload increased with the same pay.

+Still have a job.
+I am in the lucky 90% not to have gotten it and the lucky 99.8% not to have died from it.

I am an essential worker and it was a joy to find myself taking out deliveries on almost completely deserted motorways and arriving ahead of my usual delivery time by anything up to an hour, and I'm driving half the length of England here. I won't miss the endless pictures of gamers on facebook showing me their latest figures they've just finished though, or the almost endless pathetic wailing on there from seemingly self obsessed selfish people who were only worried that they'd almost run out of things to paint and they couldn't get anymore almost instantly like in normal times due to the manufacturers being short staffed and the postal system going up the creek. I haven't had time to even lift a paintbrush since February when my business suddenly had sales double and it's been mad ever since. I know I shouldn't grumble about the sales increasing (I'm not) but you just can't find the staff you know. On the plus side I only know of one poor unfortunate person who has died from this virus, and a few who've caught it ( all say they've never been so ill in their lives) and being rural dwellers and in a relatively safe work environment we've been lucky so far. The other annoying thing is that we've been wearing latex gloves, masks, and sanitising religiously and then when you do go out and don your PPE you find yourself almost rubbing shoulders with someone who has taken no precautions whatsoever and obviously couldn't care less.

von Schwartz06 Dec 2020 5:20 p.m. PST

I am an essential worker, don't know anyone who got it and very few who are even concerned about it. Everyone talks about it like it is a death sentence. Guess what, its NOT?!All the news outlets, media, and lefty politicians talk about all the people dying, when they're just NOT, 99.7% of the people who test positive have mild or no symptoms, have you ever heard them mention THAT little statistic? You have a better chance of dying being hit by a bus crossing the street, so make sure you don't cross the street! IF you must, take all precautions, wear bright fluorescent orange clothing and wear a hardhat with a flashing red/blue light when crossing the street, and only do so after 11PM when traffic is light.

I don't think that is being kept secret.

USA Infections to date: 14,800,000

USA Deaths to date: 282,000

And just do the maths. It's 1.9%. The other 98.1% will have a range of outcomes – from "didn't notice it" to "very ill for a month but got better" to "very ill, and now serious side-effects".

Oh, and according to the CDC: In 2017, 5,977 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States.

Those were not all bus related, I'm sorry I don't have a separate figure for that. But ~6k deaths of pedestrians crossing the road and ~282k deaths from Covid in 10 months. I conclude that indeed Covid is more dangerous than crossing the road.

von Schwartz07 Dec 2020 4:58 p.m. PST

Those figures are very much in dispute. There are numerous cases where people who died in the hospital were listed as COVID related fatalities just because they were exposed to someone who was suspected on having COVID, no hard proof like an autopsy. Also, what about deaths of those very aged individuals who are obese, diabetic, have a history of heart disease, have COPD, and other serious illnesses, or a combination? Are they all autopsied to determine cause of death, I doubt it. As for the number of cases, OF COURSE there are more number of cases now, we are TESTING for them. In Texas, if one individual tests positive and he lists 16 people on his contract tracing list, that goes down as 17 cases. In Florida, several cases of people signing up for testing, the lines were too long so they left without the test. Three days later they get a letter saying that they tested positive. Also in Florida, one or two large testing centers sent in results of 100% of those tested were positive. Really, everyone they tested was positive. Not to mention the hundreds, probably thousands of false positives.
You need to ask yourself, who is giving you the news of the test results and deaths. As Stalin was reputed to have said, "Its not who votes that count, but who counts the vote."

Who is counting these numbers?

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP08 Dec 2020 3:36 a.m. PST

The World Health Organisation.

The number of cases is not at all related to testing – the testing just means you have a better measure of how many cases there are. If you stopped testing today the cases would not go away. An analogy – if I sit by the main road and count the cars passing then I have a measure of the number of cars per hour that pass. If I stop counting does that mean that no cars pass by anymore? No. It doesn't mean that at all.

But you'll concede, surely, that there were not 250,000 bus related deaths in 2020? So Covid is worse than Bus related pedestrian fatalities.

von Schwartz08 Dec 2020 7:24 p.m. PST

Well taking my snark out of context doesn't change things. I still refer back to my previous post, Who is doing the counting and what is their agenda? If you want to believe they don't have an agenda, then you're deluding yourself.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP09 Dec 2020 2:51 a.m. PST

But I took your "snark" fully in context. You asserted that death to a pedestrian from a bus collision whilst crossing the street was more dangerous than Covid. All I did was point out that that was clearly untrue. It's not my fault you chose to make that comparison.

On your last point – so presumably I should also believe that you have an agenda as well?

As to who it is that does the counting – I refer back to my previous answer: The World Health Organisation. They have an agenda – it is to increase the health of the population of planet earth. Scarlet Fever, smallpox, polio – nearly all things of the past thanks to them. I'm not going to sign up to the agenda of the "let's bring back polio" society. If that makes me deluded then fine. I'd rather be deluded than dead or paralysed.
