I enjoy shopping at cons, but the only savings I particularly expect are from not having to pay for shipping.

For sure, meeting and playing with new gamers, and meeting and playing with gamers I have known for years, but only see at conventions.

I rather like the total "immersion" into the hobby.

Games (display and participation) , traders, displays, competitions etc.
Every aspect of the hobby is there (usually).
If any of the above are of no interest I am not upset because I can walk past them to something else.
Most shows welcome folk to put on games. That is great for those unhappy with what is on offer. They can help by putting on a game and sharing their positive hobby attitude.
I used to go to 35 shows a year, but with failing health it is now 3.

"The babes. The gamer babes."

Last year at Little Wars as I was checking into the Yorktown on Thursday afternoon, the place was filled with Asian Airline Stewardesses, (mostly JAL). It was surreal.
Sadly, word of warning was put out to them that the place was going to be overrun by old, fat, miniature gamers, and suddenly there was a rush by them to check out….

Sigh….
