I'd feel guilty taking up much more than 6*4 at the club with only two players. But we often have multi-player games on larger tables.

Indirectly: more figures tend to mean a bigger table, and more players tend to mean more figures.

We play in two different basements.
So, no issues.

My gaming is predominantly in the public space and most generally on 6x4 tables. As the FLGS uses Game Toppers if would be hard to adjust the size.

Not based on number of players but size of the game. We just did a game that wouldn't fit in my game room so I had to move it to another location that could accommodate that size of table.

Hard to fit six people around a card table. But possibly the OP's experience is different?

I have been playing solo for a number of years now, as my playing friends have passed away, and I have not run across any new ones.

When I began solo, I built a grand table of 6X 12Ft for my 6mm Naps. I never made it through a single game. Slowly I began to develop playing mats for 6X4, 4X4, 2X4, 2x2 that fit on styrofoam insulation boards, very light. These sit on a small portable folding table topped by a a well built lazy susan, upon which the styrofoam table top rests, topped by a mat. This allows me to sit in a decent chair and simply turn the board around to access every part without moving. And I can set up almost anywhere in a minute.

Good solution, Tortella! I may have to start looking for that lazy susan.

We do – the games with the group can go from 6 to 10 players so we use smaller games for fewer players

Thanks Robert – here is the one I use from Amazon, works well for up to 6X4 for me:

12 Inch Heavy Duty Rotating Swivel With Steel Ball Bearings Stand for Monitor/TV/Turntable/Lazy Susan This one is $14. USD

I use 2 inch thick insulation panels for the tables, they come in 4x8, can be cut to any size. Very light but strong, I store them in my basement. I have sizes for 2mm to 28mm, skirmish or big battles. My mats are made from marine vinyl, bought on sale by the yard at JoAnns, now gone, and painted for various terrains, including winter. Styro hill blocks fit nicely under them for terrain. The world is not flat! All my boards have slopes and hills, rubber roads and rivers.
