I read through the "pre-poll discussion." Huge amounts of superstition and bigotry with hardly enough science for flavor. I trust everyone keeps in mind that by the time we've each of us banned every behavior we dislike, conventions will have an average attendance of about three persons, and may have some difficulty putting on large games or attracting vendors?

I am not a fan of it in general. The flavored stuff gives off too strong an smell.

Vaping is similar to smoking: nicotine, and other chemicals present in the vapors they exhale. Most States, in the USA, have banned smoking in public places. Vaping should be included in those laws, as it is similar to smoking, pushing chemicals into the air others must breathe, if they are in a building -- unless they choose to leave said building. If I pay to attend a convention, I should not be forced to breathe other people's chemicals of choice. That infringes on my freedom to breathe without said chemicals.

I smoked, in college. I do not want to eliminate smoking/vaping, but I do not want it forced upon me, in public buildings, either. If someone smokes/vapes, near me, outside, I can move away from it, without harming their freedom, and they are not harming mine, either. Cheers!

I agree with Sgt Slag's sentiments!

Ditto Sgt Slag.

Health issues aside, that stuff stinks. I don't care what your vice is, if it forces those around you to breathe in strong aromas, you should have the consideration to do it far enough away that they don't have to. At a con during a game in a room filled with other people is never the time or place for it.

It does stink.

Go outside – like I did back when I was a smoker wink

It's not hard …

I don't vape & I doubt that I will try it as I do smoke quality cigars & a pipe a few times weekly. I don't smoke cigarettes since they are flavorless to me (except for Black Russians & Turkish Ovals which I can't find in my local shops anymore). IMO, smoking of any type should be banned in a public place or limited to a certain area that is out doors or well ventilated if allowed by law. Of course, I'll follow the rules at an event or an establishment or as a guest at a home. My gaming group was a mix of smokers & non-smokers; we didn't smoke indoors but did outside on the patio after dinner with the non-smokers sitting upwind. I try to be a good host for my games, but I won't be told that smoking is banned in my own backyard. As for strong odors, I think that many of us have found some truth in the stereotype of the wargame con player who skips a daily shower.

+1 to SupriousMilius' comments. I bought an electronic cigarette for my mom after she moved to a rest home. While it supplied nicotine and the physical appearance of smoking, she complained it had no flavor! Current vaping with strong flavoring does seem to be rather intrusive.

Vaping stinks. Keep it in the car park.

Vaping is safer than smoking tobacco. So is eating a quarter teaspoon of rat poison. Could you pick a lower bar? In wargaming terms it's like saying a group showed more military ethics than … well … you know …

And there's plenty of research. How many thousand articles would you like to read?

To me smoking and vaping are the same – fine for someone in their own place, but not in a public place

I don't consider vaping to be appropriate in a non-smoking area. Smokers and vapers can go to their designated space and do what they want.

The issue with smoking is nicotene being breathed out, the issue with vaping is the same thing.
