Probably just shows my intellectual immaturity but I find gaming a Great Power in decline a bit sad

I consider the Lord of the Rings fascinating precisely because the forces of Good ARE in decline. Well, so is Bad for that matter. grin
None are anywhere near as powerful as they used to be, but Good is far worse off.
Good prevails despite the odds, but fades away.

Well, I picked "decline" but what I really want is "up against it." You get the odd units, strange uniforms and bits of equipment you generally don't find at peak when things are more uniform.
