Winston would never forgive me if I didn't vote for 1984!

To my surprise, there was two movies on the list that I've watched.

I actually saw six! Mind you, I was married, so there were dates, and I was trapped in the ROK for one year and in Germany for three, so access to books was unusually low.

I enjoyed Buckaroo Banzai so much I bought the DVD and wore it out. Then bought another one.

Is there anyway I can vote AGAINST Dune? ‘Cause that one SUCKED.

Well, there were five I could vote for… though my fifth vote, Gremlins, is a rather tepid one.

If you find a way, Parzival, please let me know. Considering everything I've forgotten over the years, it says something that I still remember how bad that movie was.

I love that version of Dune. grin

Never got the love for Gremlins.

+1 to vote AGAINST Dune.
When I went to the movies to watch it, they were handing out mimeographed sheets explaining who the characters were. That didn't look good…
If you hadn't read the book, which I thought was highly overrated, I guess it was useful, because they tried to cram too much into 2 hours. It was also poorly edited.

Typical example:
"I'm the Shadout Mapes. Stick your hand in this box. It's the Gom Jabbar! Hmmm. Okay. You're human. See you around"
No explanation. At all. No context.

The Sandworm Surfing really could have used some Dick Dale surfer music.

Sting was just ridiculous.

Sorry, but the best I could do was just not vote for that overblown trash.

What is so special about 1984 other than the novel?

Katzbalger08 Sep 2024 2:39 a.m. PST

I saw 7 of these--and Buckaroo Banzai is certainly the best (B-grade) movie among the lot!

I never read Dune but had no problem following the movie. It was okay, not bad, not good, just okay.
