The BBC's latest adaptation of The Musketeers, currently showing in the UK, is pretty darned good IMHO. I appreciate it is a series rather than a film, but still gets my vote.

I agree The Musketeers is fantastic. I never really liked the movie versions though.

The Richard Lester version is by far the best.

I tried to watch the 2011/Mila Jovovich version last month on HBO. I was in a "receptive phase" for the period, and wasn't expecting much out of the movie. I also knew it was steampunkish and played fast and loose with the source material and history. In other words, I was a willing victim with lowered expectations.

Boy, was I ever disappointed.

And DeCapprio's crap performance in "iron Mask" (easily the worst of his dismal acting career), was made all the worst by it being matched with reliable professional actors and not just prettyboy heart-throbs for teenage girls and Certain Italian-American directors. Ruined it.

1948 Gene Kelley/Van Hefflin/Lana Turner version for me.

Lester's version.

You forgot Lester's sequel: The Return of the Musketeers(1989)

I'm a big fan of the A Team – sorry, the BBC version, its excellent Friday night escapism. I voted for the 1974 series of movies which to me felt quite in keeping with the book :)

Oh, and an honourable mention for Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds!

Cerdic04 Mar 2015 3:21 p.m. PST

Well. That is an unusually conclusive result!

The Four Musketeers with Raquel Welch in it.

The latest adaptation 'Musketeers' is very good indeed.

yes, The return of the Musketeers by Dick Lester is a gross oversight.

The only one of these I any real regard for is la Fille du d'Artagnan/The Daughter of D'Artagnan, not at all a bad effort, and Sophie Marceau can cut it with a sword far better than most (altho' she's no Kim Cattrall).
