A zealous abolitionist?

Visionary? He foresaw that the americas would very soon agree to end the abomination of slavery, they just needed a little nudge in the right direction which arguably he, as an Abolitionist, was partly responsible for providing. It only took a very little clear thinking to see that it was wrong.

Brazil had a better method for ending slavery.

Maybe -but the blockading of slave ports by the Royal Navy wasn't really an option for the usa. They had to get together and come to an amical decision on a sensible way forward on their own.

The U.S. Navy was helping the Royal Navy to interdict the slave trade across the Atlantic before the war. American objections to British efforts to end the slave trade were overcome when U.S. slave owners realized how much more their current slaves (and any babies they produced) would be worth if no new slaves we're being imported.

Sure, which is why they had to have an alternative solution – abolition – politely suggested to them
