Oliver! is classic, a true "gateway" musical if I may say. On the Town is another classic, from the golden age, plus… silly sailors! I am the lone vote for Pepe so far, perhaps because it's not easily available for home video or streaming. But it's charming in places, plus a plethora of Hollywood celebrity (then) guest cameos. Plus an exquisitely beautiful Shirley Jones and modern (then) dance in a jazzbo coffeehouse! I still make a "Suzi Murphy martini" in her honor from this film's recipe. TEQUILA!! |
