I heard this story earlier today on one of my local sports radio stations:

link

Long before he was an '80s singing heartthrob to so many girls and young women, long before he was an '80s acting heartthrob to so many girls and young women. And yes, even before his only appearance on ABC-TV's 1978 space epic Battlestar Galactica where he played the unfortunate Colonial Warrior and younger brother "Zac" to actor Richard Hatch's "Apollo", entertainer Rick Springfield was once in South Vietnam in 1968 where he was in an Australian rock group entertaining their troops. Little did he know that his life would forever change one night during an enemy assault. What's fascinating about his story is that he's carried this "secret" until recently when he divulged it on a podcast.

He and my older brother, who was drafted and is a Vietnam veteran, were born in the same year (1949) approximately three months apart, my brother in May and Mr. Springfield in August. Hopefully, there are no "demons" associated with Mr. Springfield's experience, and that he can still live the rest of his life with peace of spirit, heart, and mind.

peace

Sounds like it haunted him, knowing someone died from the mortar rounds he dropped.

Wasn't there an episode like that in the old TV show "Tour of Duty"?
