That's football. Some days you're the hammer, some days you're the nail. Today the USA were definitely the nail.

Congratulations to Belgium. The USA made the Round of 16, but today showed there's still a gap to the world's best.

As someone said "better beer, better chocolate, better football".

One shouldn't joke but this still could be 1:0 if FIFA disallow four goals on review 😁

FIFA is just waiting for The Call.

Great result for Belgium. Great result for World Football.

BTW wasn't Folarin Balogun awful in this game?

I think it showed that they need a decent goal keeper. What an idiot.

"I think it showed that they need a decent goal keeper. What an idiot."

Harsh….but fair.

Honestly, the entire team looked like rabbits caught in headlights. They saved their worst game for this one.

'Taint really our sport guys. About what I expected for all the games. Was glad to hear that most visitors seemed to have like the States.

Horrible play by the US Team, not just the goalie. (What the heck are you doing, leaving the box? Either hurl that ball down field as far as you can, hopefully to a teammate, or stay in front of your goal!)

Their tactics were predictable, they consistently passed to members who were being two-teamed rather than to the more open players, and took too long to make shots, allowing Belgium defenders to run in to blocking position. If you aren't attacking the goal, why the heck are you even down there?

Very disappointed in their play, and frankly surprised by it.

As for the rest, learn the rules. Video review is not allowed to determine a Red Card, by FIFA rules. Thus, the ref in the US/B&H game violated those rules, and should indeed have been overturned. Secondly, any fair viewing of the incident in real time makes it clear it was a near instantaneous collision by two players trying for the ball and personal balance, not an intentional foul. The decision to review was made before any phone call, by the way.

And yes, I actually was a soccer player (fullback/defender and occasional halfback) in middle school and high school. Won three local championships. My specialty was the slide-tackle, and frankly we needed to see more of those in this game. No, I was never even close to this athletic level, but I understand the game, having played it competitively, and with two really good coaches. And yes, I understand the offsides rule, and despise it— even as a defender. It's the equivalent of telling an NFL QB he can't throw the ball to a wide receiver who's broken past the safety. Like heck you can't! If the defender is dumb enough to let a striker get past him, that should be his own d— fault for not paying attention.

Parzival's understanding of rule violation & penalty is incorrect.

With any luck Infantino will be forced to resign for his part in the "politics & sport" mess that came near to marring the World Cup.

Rule Violation: FIFA rules strictly outlaw political interference.

@ Shagnasty:
"Was glad to hear that most visitors seemed to have like the States." I've never been but evidently a lot to like.

A lot of visitors liked the co-hosts countries – Canada & Mexico – too.
I think there's a lot to be said for sharing major sporting events. Often done with Rugby World Cup. The Olympics could be shared to cut costs?

Studs out tackle which landed on the players leg missing the ball has been a foul for a very long time.
VAR can tell the ref to review the footage and if he chooses he can change his call.
The original decision for a red card was correct.
Slide tackles have been out for years. Anything studs up is a foul.
