Posthumous award to L/Cpl James Ashworth, who was serving with 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. L/Cpl James Ashworth was killed protecting his men from a grenade blast while on a reconnaissance patrol to disrupt insurgent activity in the Nahr-e-Saraj district in June 2012.

Posthumous award to Corporal Bryan Budd, 29, of 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, who was killed when he single-handedly stormed a Taliban position in Sangin in August 2006.

Australia had four, three of which were awarded to SASR and 2 Commando Regiment personnel. The other was awarded to Dan Keighran ( link ) from 6 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR). It broke a long tradition of not awarding the VC to RAR members, only DCM or MM.

Note- I think these awardees earned their awards, and I'm not saying we did "better" than the UK. It's that we're not part of the Imperial Honours and Awards System, now, and pollies now have a say in the awards.
