There were three Posthumous award to Lance Corporal Joshua Leakey, of the Parachute Regiment who ran across exposed hillside raked with machine-gun three times to help joint UK-US force in danger of being overrun by the Taliban in Helmand link Posthumous award to L/Cpl James Ashworth, who was serving with 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. Posthumous is a word often used in VC and MOH awards. |

Australia had four, three of which were awarded to SASR and 2 Commando Regiment personnel. The other was awarded to Dan Keighran ( link ) from 6 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR). It broke a long tradition of not awarding the VC to RAR members, only DCM or MM. It's that we're not part of the Imperial Honours and Awards System, now, and pollies now have a say in the awards. |
