Sad news indeed. A brilliant, funny mind. HIs cancellation was a gross over-reaction to a clumsy, off-hand joke, which wasn't even in the comic. It was taken out of context and amplified to an absurd degree by the usual suspects for that sort of thing. I loved Dilbert when I discovered it. Adams had the ability to skewer the human foibles of the work world (and politics as well) with superb satire that was never offensive or mean. RIP, Mr. Adams, and thanks for the laughs. |

That's pretty young. He was "required reading" for a lot of years for "cube dwellers" and then later in life he seemingly set out to destroy himself (whilst blaming everyone else), which I found kind of sad. So – thanks for 1990 to about 1999 (when the animated cartoon came along and he sort of lost his touch). |

…then later in life he seemingly set out to destroy himself (whilst blaming everyone else), which I found kind of sad. … And became a hero to others. Fox News: link |

If that's what you call a hero. |

Maybe you should read his non-Dilbert books, 20thMaine, before you condemn the man over one statement taken out of context. Your favored media hasn't been honest with you for the last decade or more— you might want to consider whether Gell-mann Amnesia is affecting your assessment of the "reporting" you have received about Scott Adams. He was a good man who offered commentary, both humorous and serious, on issues facing us every day. When you do that, you irritate the easily irritated, especially if you don't follow their mandatory script as to what you can and can't say, believe, or do. If you're going to speak ill of the dead, then it is upon you to actually know some facts about the man. |

If that's what you call a hero. I haven't read his books, I never listened to his podcast. But those who have are saying wonderful things about him, calling him a mentor and a revolutionary thinker. |

He was a talented and astute observer of the human condition. His wit and wisdom will be sorely missed. |

Since "everyone" is a hero to someone it might be wise to consider forming your own opinion – if you acknowledge that someone is a hero just because some people say so then you're accepting – "write your own list here" I did buy some of his merchandise in the 1990s, after about 6 or 7 years it started to become fairly repetitive and then he decided his best move was to be openly racist. His sales plummeted. He thought the rest of the world was to blame and took no personal responsibility. That's all I said. If racism is your bag, make him a hero. Just recall that I never brought up hero worship – don't try and hang that on me. |

…and then he decided his best move was to be openly racist… I'll respectfully disagree. I'm going to read one of his books now. |

20th Maine, he made one bad joke on a pod cast in response to a joking question, and was clearly being hyperbolic to make a deeper point, not about race at all but rather human perceptions, and the Usual Suspects who have no ability to understand subtext or humor, condemned him as another scalp they could claim on their belt of Moral Superiority Over All Others. Virtue signaling at its worst and most destructive. Why do you continue to accede these people any respect or assumption of accuracy, when they've shown over and over again they are worthy of neither? I'm willing to bet you couldn't off the top of your head recall exactly what it was that you describe as "openly racist" in Scott Adam's behavior or work. Oh, you can Google, same as any other person. But actually name it without help, I seriously doubt. Gell-man amnesia, in spades. As always, consider the source. |

He was, as noted above, a brilliant commentator on the foibles of work and other human situations. I do not follow "podcasts" (whatever they are) or public reaction to them so cannot comment on those aspects of his life. I do know that many cannot understand and thus appreciate subtle humor or commentary. What people do not understand they often destroy. |

I'm sorry, Bill, but I'll have to disagree. I liked his office stuff, but I hated his podcast stuff later. I think he rose past the level he was best at, YMMV. |
