This has been a horrible day. I can't even process what happened at Brown or Bondi Beach in Australia, and then this…

Awful. Just awful.

And the possibility that one of their sons, who's had a troubled past involving drug abuse, may be the prime suspect. It, and this past weekend, has just been unfathomable, to say the least.

About Rob Reiner, he's left an impressive amount of work, both in front of, and especially, behind the movie camera. Despite differences in politics and views, this is so very tragic for Mr. Reiner's family and fans of his impressive creative work. This shouldn't have happened to him and his beloved wife.

Godspeed, Mr. Reiner, and thank you very much.

peace

Not my politics but a great director and writer. It was a tragically sad way to die. RIP.

Truly one of the greatest directors of his era. That he is not spoken about with the same adulation as some of his contemporaries is because Reiner never cultivated his own brand in the way others (e.g. Spielberg, Scorcese) did. There was never a big hullabaloo about what the next big Rob Reiner film was, or what he was optioning or attaching his name to. Instead he did the work and let the film stand front and center. That approach allowed him to do an incredibly diverse array of projects, and the result was some of the best loved and most highly regarded movies in genres as disparate as romantic comedy, psychological thriller, courtroom drama, coming of age story, and fantasy. And of course he established the modern mockumentary.

I mourn his passing and I hope his eternal reward includes knowing how many lives he touched with his gifts.

He did some of my favorite movies.
Tragic end.

Spinal Tap is a complete classic.

He was also a very successful actor – winner of two Emmys as well.
