Apparently it goes through Portland, since Washington Spirit just beat Portland 2-0 to secure their spot in the NWSL finals! Finals next weekend in San Jose, opponent TBD tomorrow (hope it's Gotham, not Orlando, though we have beat both in the regular season this year). Player of the Match Rosemond Kouassi, with a 75 meter run through several defenders to set up Gift Monday for the first goal. Soccer doesn't count assists, but both hockey and I do. Best point of the match: Went to get a beer (at the bar, conveniently 15' from my seat with no intervening seats) after that goal. The barender asked if the woman I was with was my wife. She was (and still is). He asked how long, I said "36 years." He said that he has seen us at matches many times (We go to Audi field for Washington Spirit, DC United, DC Power (which should have gove with District of Columbia Athletic (instead of Football) Club so they could be DC Power AC), and the odd rugby match they play at Audi Field. Then he said he had told his girlfriend that we were what he wanted her and him to be like. I didn't cry.  you. You can't prove it. ;) |

It's about a 6 hour flight (with layover) from the DC metro area, so slightly shorter than my regular Washington commute in traffic. |
