He was a childhood hero of mine. Fair winds and following seas. Thank you!

A great American hero and a goodwill ambassador for humanity's ongoing exploration of the universe. Not only was he a U.S. Navy veteran, but he was also a veteran of two NASA Project Gemini missions (#7 in 1965 & #12 in 1966) and the Apollo 8 lunar exploratory mission 1n 1968.

Godspeed, Captain Lovell, and thank you VERY, very much for your selfless service to our country. I salute you, sir.

peace

Since 1968 when I watched the Apollo 8 mission as a kid, he was always my favorite astronaut. Then came Apollo 13 and his position as a heroic figure was cemented for all time. For many years he lived in retirement in Horseshoe Bay, near Austin, when I was living in Austin, and I will always regret not driving across town once to attend his book signing for "Lost Moon." I ought to have done that. God speed on your next voyage, Captain!

An American hero and a *space* hero. We're lucky it was him on Apollo 13 so that part of human history is a great adventure and not a tragedy. An astronaut among astronauts.

He was the epitome of the "Right Stuff."
