Reports are coming in that Former President Carter has died at home in Plains Georgia.

May have not been the best Presidetn, but an awesome human being

Good man.

Very good man. Personal friend of my grandfather's, though I never got to meet him (I was just a boy back then).

Though I disagreed with many of Carter's political decisions in office, he was indeed a very good man, who sought to do what he believed was the right thing. I believe his legacy after his presidency was one of remarkable humility and a powerful example of one of the greatest aspects of the American Experiment— that a man might serve his country in a position of the highest power and authority, and then return to private life to serve it through personal actions to make life better for others in need. He didn't just talk the good talk— he walked it. May that example be remembered and followed, forever.

RIP, Mr. President, and thank you for your service.

+1, Paezival. A throwback to the vision of the Founding Fathers.

He may not have been as bad a president as is generally thought. He was also an accomplished naval officer before and a great humanitarian after. Being president was just the low point in his career.

And honestly, when you account for the problems during his presidency which were not his fault, wouldn't any of us choose him over one or more of the presidents we've had since?

According to legend, Carter was the only president to ask questions when instructed how to use the "football."

Carter was severely criticized for canceling the development of the B-1 supersonic bomber in 1977. But his administration allocated funding to develop the stealth F-117 strike fighter and B-2 strategic bomber instead, research programs he couldn't publicly discuss at the time. So his critics said that he was "weak" on defense and there was nothing he could do about it.

He also proposed deploying air-launched cruise missiles (ALCMs) aboard U.S. aircraft.

No major wars were fought during his administration.

I don't think he deserves to be ranked among the best or worst presidents in our history, but he was probably the most misunderstood.

He certainly deserves to be higher rated than he was.

Can't think of many other presidents who was able to shut down a nuclear reactor in meltdown. By being lowered into the reactor.

Don't think many other presidents (or most other people) would have had the guts to do it either. Apparently his urine was registering radioactivity for 6 months.

His presidency was so bad that Regan beat him in a landslide. I don't think any modern president can match what he did after his presidency. RIP sir.
