"Dividing the Internet."
Seriously? I thought MY life was lame, but to get worked up over that is the lamest.

Funnily enough this week the leader of our parliamentary opposition made a big fuss about hating sandwiches and "moist bread".

She is against sandwiches for lunch… because they are a breakfast item.. make of that what you can!!

You're on the cutting edge here, Tango!

I can see why she is in opposition rather than in charge!

Probably not. The cited statement is part of a four-sentence joke about being busy and not having the luxury for things like lunch out of a 2000+ word interview. Less than 1% of the content. You would think people would focus on the substance instead of taking a small aside of humour out of context and treating it like it was the main message. Then again, some people won't.

Sorry. Taken out of context is standard operating procedure for many in the world of communications.

No problem.

I am not sure if I am "in the world of communications", but most of my job is to put context to things people take out of it. ;) You are correct, many people base their carrers on deliberately obfuscating the truth with facts.

Err – she said she lunches on steak rather than sandwiches…which she has brought into work….

Getting a steak delivered is arguably more luxurious than grabbing a sandwich whilst you work at your desk….

Also the topic of this thread is sandwich related….

Perhaps you could read my post before replying.

luxury was talking about time, not the qualitt of the food.

If she were having lunch at the taxpayer's dime, that would be an issue. If she is ordering in so she doesn't ahve to spend time waiting the the cafeteria, etc., then she's spening her own money to give more of her time to the public. So its parsiminous with time.

Doesn't actually explain the sandwich comment through, does it?

Most people can eat a sandwich in less time than a steak – presumably she is having something with her steak, frites perhaps, or maybe some nice broccoli. Definitely not any of the dreaded "Moist bread". The very thought. Bread, if is to be eaten, naturally should be very dry. Or "stale" as we normally refer to it.

So, steak and trimmings from an unbiased point of view is more costly in terms of time as well as financially. Who pays for it is immitarial – a steak is by any measure more luxurious than an everyday sandwich. We often find this in life – a typical establishment purveying both sandwiches and steaks – a pub perhaps – will have the sandwich listed as a lite bite, something quick and inexpensive, whilst the steak will be listed as a main course. One may expect to wait a little for it, as it is freshly prepared to ones preference. Glancing at this hypothetical menu one will ascertain that the steak is two or three times the cost of the sandwich. Luxury indeed – but this is as nothing to us as we are both financially well recompensed and have amble time to spend on lunch. It's not as if we have anything of note to do in the afternoon anyway.

I await your cogent rebuttal with baited breath. And a sandwich.

It is difficult to make a response to a strawman argument, a non-sequitorm and a false dichotomy,.

Too much work! Cut in half and eat it!
