"THE NEW SERIES will be a dark and gritty retelling of the exploration of the American West in the 19th century. This is America… 1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few possess grace — even fewer know compassion. There is no safe haven in these brutal lands, and only one goal matters: survival. The violent collisions of cultures, religions and communities as men and women fight and die for control of this new world – for a land they truly believe is their destiny. The ensemble tells a story of the sacrifice all must pay when they choose to enter a lawless and untamed wilderness. Peter Berg, who is also an executive producer of the new series, also acts as the director of all six episodes over at Netflix. He promises accuracy and authenticity in depicting the historical period in the series."

It looks good and I will watched. But I did smile when the Plains Indian woman says to the White man "Why do your people have such a hunger to kill." Right, because the Plains Indian were such a peace loving, non-violent people.

Looks ridiculous. 99% of the people who settled the west probably never experienced or witnessed acts of violence like those portrayed here. They're trying to tell you that some extraordinary events were a daily occurrence.

Very true. The violence of the Old West is way way over the top in movies and books. If I remember correctly, over a period of ten years looking at the cattle towns in Kansas only ten men die from violence.
