I had a very long rant last night about this with a friend who graduated from the Naval Academy. He hates Notre Dame so much, he even cheered for Army! Notre Dame, you must remember, is Special. The Committee that picks the 12 teams for the Playoffs has to consider just how Special Notre Dame is.
Notre dame by choice belongs to no Conference. Oh no! They're too good for that!
Instead they make their own schedule. They can play as many teams composed of genuine student athletes who can actually read and write, as they wish. No need to compete with the likes of Alabama, no sir.
This they can compile a record of 10-1, compelling The Committee to recognize just how Special they are. This is written from the perspective of a schismatic heretic who was a devoted Notre Dame fan until I went away for grad school. |

Yep. My second favorite college team each week is Notre Dame's opponent. There were hopes Army might beat 'em, especially as the Knights are a running team. I love 3 yards and a cloud of artificial turf! However Navy is my choice for The Game. |
