"If you make a trip to your favorite Chinese chain restaurant just to be able to get an order or two of their spare ribs, you'll love this easy slow cooker version. The 5-ingredient recipe (two of which are water and salt) takes just a few minutes to assemble in the slow cooker, then cooks for hours while you go about other things. It's a super simple main dish that goes perfectly with your favorite game day sides and appetizers, or just with an easy salad for a satisfying weeknight dinner…"

I know many Chinese who first boil or simmer their ribs in water that has various species in it, then finishes them off in a wok with more spices. The trick is to cut the ribs into about 2" long pieces to fry them in the wok.

OOOPS that is a bit if a goof. "species" I assume is spices, but it does kinda give a funny twist to the sentence!
