1st time for more energy out than in. I machined a big aluminum sphere that holds the lasers, something called z-rings (no idea what they were) and where I worked made really big vacuum chambers. This was in the late 90s – early 2000s so I doubt they are still in use as the technology has advanced substantially since then.

That is good news. It will probably be another 20 years before they can produce power comercially, but this is an important step.

Or maybe more than 20 years. Follow-up reports reveal that the experiment had nothing to do with power generation. It was part of a program to test the readiness of our hydrogen bomb arsenal without actually exploding any of them like we used to do.
