1st time for more energy out than in. I machined a big aluminum sphere that holds the lasers, something called z-rings (no idea what they were) and where I worked made really big vacuum chambers. This was in the late 90s – early 2000s so I doubt they are still in use as the technology has advanced substantially since then. link |

That is good news. It will probably be another 20 years before they can produce power comercially, but this is an important step. |

Or maybe more than 20 years. Follow-up reports reveal that the experiment had nothing to do with power generation. It was part of a program to test the readiness of our hydrogen bomb arsenal without actually exploding any of them like we used to do. |
