People have been saying this stuff since the 1950s. That doesn't mean it's true or not true, but it's not a revelation. I'll be more interested when it's something other than the NY Post.

It's amusing, though, in an article that points out that high taxes on cannabis products lead to most people getting theirs through the illicit market also mentions that the federal legalization efforts include *another* tax, which inevitably means the legal market will shrink and the unregulated market will gain market share.

But I have no dog in this fight.

The article links to 27 studies spanning over two decades of research. The entire NIH archive has tens of thousands of such studies.

But I have no dog in this fight.

If you have collective health insurance with people prescribed "medical" marijuana or recreationally using it, and it is not properly risk pooled, then you do.

Also, driving laws in the US (which vary state to state) and many countries have difficulty revoking driver's licenses from people with long term progressive mental and psycho-motor degradation until those drivers cause a serious injury or fatality.

It's been suggested that increased pot usage, particularly among those already subject to mental illness and violent tendencies, may be a contributing factor in some mass-violence incidents. THC doesn't make all users "mellow"— in some, it produces violent psychosis and, like alcohol, affects the judgment centers, removing inhibitions that hold back already existing violent tendencies.
For example, Michael Brown (of Ferguson, MO) was high on pot when he robbed a convenience store by brutally beating the (Korean) owner, and later assaulted and then charged a police officer, who was forced to shoot him in self defense. An already violent person, the THC in Brown's system may have increased his likelihood of being violent, resulting in his death. It certainly didn't make him "mellow." Poor, sensationalized reporting on the incident helped produce the Ferguson riot which destroyed multiple local business (most Black owned), and was the precursor to the US race riots (and subsequent deaths and property damage) of the last few years. So, yeah, you DO have a dog in this fight. We all do.

Pot is NOT a victimless, non-addictive drug with no real social ramifications.
Also, smoking pot— inhaling burning fumes— is just as dangerous as smoking tobacco, or about anything else. Human lungs are not designed to inhale smoke or chemicals— they are designed to inhale AIR— Oxygen and nitrogen. You pump something else in, and they're trying to filter it out, because to the human lung anything else is literally toxic— in fact ALL smoke is toxic. And the human lung is a lousy filter system for that purpose.
But the irony of people who complain about Big Tobacco turning around and actively promoting pot would be hilarious if the stuff wasn't destroying lives.

And get over the NY Post. Lately, they've been more accurate in their reporting than the NYT, the WP, the AP, and pretty much any of the network news.
That's why I go to them as a source of news; they do a better job of actual journalism than many other sources. And they have on this one.

The wisdom of the old saying " Never get between an alcoholic and his next drink or an addict and his next fix".

The penchant for humans to self destruct, trade the present for the future and selectively absolve themselves of responsibility for their actions is legendary in the galactic core…

I'll get on board with banning pot (again) when they also ban cigarettes and booze. They've killed, maimed, and ruined a million times as many people as pot ever has.

I've read that all the recent school shooters were chronic marijuana users. My question is this; did the pot turn them psychotic, or were they already psychotic and self medicating with the pot?

Who's calling for a ban? I'm calling for honesty among the press and others about the truth of marijuana's harmful impact on individuals and society. It's not a healthy habit at all, and should carry the same social warnings as anything else, if not more.

Until (If ever) pot is nationally legalized & regulated like tobacco & alcohol you'll never know what you're smoking. A few years ago, some pot heads here ended up in the ER when they smoked herb (maybe not even MJ) laced with LSD or psilocybin.
