it's kind of sad and the passing of some sort of "tradition" but I'm actually amazed that one of those interviewed says that there's probably only another two years left in the job.

Time moves on, technologies change and people have to adapt. Happens everywhere, and I say that as a retired IT professional that had to be nimble and quick to stay employed for 30 plus years.

Suffice it to say there are still people doing old
jobs – like farrier, blacksmithing, harness/leatherwork
and other once essential skilled jobs.

Not many, but my SiL manages to make a living at it
(smith/farrier) of course being married to my daughter
(horse farm/riding school owner) doesn't hurt.
