whatever else was bad about 2020, books (proper physical hold 'em in your hand, read them in the bath, give them to someone else when you've finished with them) saw a surge in sales:

UK – exceeded 200million sold for 1st time in almost a decade,

USA – had 751 million sales, first time for over a decade.

Pretty good. I recall many years ago a series of heated debates about publishing moving to be all ebooks in (I think) 10 years. Ha! How do you like them apples?

So – here's the Poll bit – did you buy books in 2020?

Have 50+ yet to read as a conservative estimate, probably more like approaching 100.
All non-fiction by the way.

I helped in those numbers!!!!

Who counts the number of books they buy?

I haven't bought my usual numbers in the last 2 years for various reasons so have been re-reading many, mostly history, books. Also I haven't been to the Library since the Covid c--- started.

I definitely bought fewer books during the strict lockdowns, as browsing books with a mask on is not my idea of a fun time.

I've been making an effort to actually read the physical books I already own.

I find interesting titles at the dollar store, too.

I also have the great advantage of living practically next door to the public library, and can put requests in online for anything in the greater library system.

2400 on my Kindle, about half history, half fiction. Sold off over 7000 physical books over past 6 years. Half Price books and Goodwill love me.

I bought over a hundred books, not counting eBooks. If my friends don't want to read them, my local library gets them. They really do love me, because the books are usually hardbound and read once.

Another great thing about the Kindle is the ability to send documents and PDFs to it. I've been sending PDF rule sets to it as more and more rules are sold as PDFs. I also have a Fire, which is slightly larger screen wise and it is in color, so I have options depending on the item.
