If you don't know what they are people or groups put them in yards and put books in them to be taken, swapped or left by anyone. You can look for them listed at Little Free Library.

There is a nice park (ball fields, walking trails, picnic
area, kids playground) about a mile from us.

The county put a small covered area with a free library
next to the admin building and it sees a lot of
activity.

Our church has had one for several years now.

A lot of our old red phone boxes have been repurposed like this, now that nobody uses public pay phones anymore…

A note on how I made it
Used a wood router to randomly cut out the stone on a 3/4 plywood, used Krylon stone paint to multi coat those parts, did need a new craft paint color for the mortar joints which painted by brush. ( what's those joints after thousands of figures?) Then used clear coat over all. Roof is individually glued cedar shims cotton size and stained and clear coated. Hopefully to stand years of weather.

Nice concept. For Cerdic: No one in the UK needs a public phone any longer? Do y'all give free phones as a previous regime here did before the 2nd term election?

Gave it 1 more coat on roof, it's going to my sister so if someday your lost driving around the Gettysburg area and see it stop by and see what's inside.
