Greets; I need an inexpensive digital camera for taking photos of my mini's up close. The phone just doesn't do it quite good enough. And as long as I'm at this… where does one find a background photo/Art large enough for the troops to stand in front of that looks right? |

What's not good enough about your phone? Unless you're a hobby or professional photographer, there's probably not much more you're going to get on the technology side beyond your phone. How big are the troops (lxw of the footprint and size of figs for the shot)? Could be calendars/art books, HO/O Scale, maybe posters or photographer backdrops, or possibly custom print your own. EDIT: Greenscreening is also an option. |

Go to Best Buy, Wal-Mart or Target and look at their cameras. Look for one that has a macro lens. Bring a soldier to pose for you while you try the cameras out. They come in all price ranges, I use a Nikon Coolpix L340 and it was maybe $100 USD or so for my blog. Click on my blog, look at any photo, click on the photo and enlarge it. They blow up huge for wonderful detail. I am not much of a photographer, the camera does all the work. I take about half of my photos outside and half inside in one of those mini- photo studios. Go to Hobby Lobby and they have rolled up posters of sky, space, and stuff. One of those provides a massive backdrop that will last for decades. I have also found them in school supply stores, and even use backgrounds for fish tanks and also as wallpaper. Good luck with the project. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

Unless you're a hobby or professional photographer, there's probably not much more you're going to get on the technology side beyond your phone. That very much depends on what phone you've got. I've got an iPhone11 and that certainly is excellent for photos of miniatures. My wife's iPhone5, not so much. However, my iPhone costs a heck of a lot more than a perfectly good camera so I wouldn't advise buying a phone purely for Its camera . DBDD |
