As a young airborne infantry officer, James 'Maggie' Megellas single-handedly destroyed a German tank during the Battle of the Bulge using only hand grenades. He was awarded the Silver Star for that action. A retired Army lieutenant colonel, Megellas was known as the most decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne Division, with a Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. He was also recommended for a medal of Honor. link Another hero of the 'Greatest Generation' who has gone into the west. Rest in Peace, comrade. Jim (US Army, retired) |

Rest in peace Sir. On a semi related note, it seems completely random who gets MOH and who gets a DSC. I've read AAR about insane heroics and they get DSC, or even a silver star. |
