I've been following this Youtube (yes, really) channel for a month now for up to date info on the Coronavirus. I've found the info to be both more current and reliable than the standard news channels. They typically publish a 10 minute update each morning. Hope someone finds this useful. youtu.be/bV1CZxJ-uvU |

As an aside, if you've never seen the movie Contagion from 2011 it's a pretty good depiction of a pandemic. I was in Hong Kong during the Avian flu and Contagion does a great job of depicting the panic that accompanies an outbreak. It's one of my top 5 films: youtu.be/4sYSyuuLk5g |

Follow the flu season protocols and you are probably good to go. So far most of the problems, and expansion, are in countries with sub-standard health care. As with any virus, when the temperatures get warmer the threat recedes. |

Normally, yes, but that remains to be seen with this one and it certainly wasn't the case in 1918. C19 is not proving to be unusually lethal so far, although again neither was the Spanish flu in its first wave. On the other hand it seems to be very persistent and there is a growing risk that we may have real issues with large public events like concerts, sports, and conventions later in the year. We shouldn't panic, but concern is well warranted. It would be far more like the flu if there was a vaccine available, but that looks to be a good year off unless we get lucky for the fall. |

In my view comparison of or even reference to the C-19 with the 1918 Spanish flu is ridicules. Medical knowledge, treatment and practices has advanced somewhat since 1918. |

In the past I would have said it sells newspapers….. Two weeks ago it was a good time to sell and two weeks from now it will be a good time to buy. |

The comparison with the Spanish Flu is actually very apt. Both are new viruses where the general population had little or no immunity established. As such, the virus will not be constrained in its spread by being unable to infect a portion of the population. Other circumstances are different. We will have better treatment, better ideas on how and why to isolate patients, and no war. On the other hand we are *much* more connected today. 1918 spread most strongly in the places where soldiers were training and being shipped. Ports were hit very badly. Between air travel and the long infectious time, C19 is not going to be containable. If large numbers of people contract it, the chance of mutation grows. 1918 mutated to become much more lethal. Hopefully this will not. Right now it is likely that the primary issues with c19 revolve around problems with the distribution network the modern economy revolves around. This is more likely to affect most people rather than the virus itself. Counting on warm weather to solve it is at best a shot in the dark. We just don't know if it will help or not. Our best bet is a good vaccine, so hopefully the predictions of a quick one are accurate. Otherwise we are going to have to endure some dislocation in our lives for a year. |

These are interesting times indeed. Unfortunately things might not get better for a while. At least some of us are already used to being shut in our homes for long periods of time with our cats. |
