According to the Daily Mail, British star Lashana Lynch is tackling the the iconic role in the 25th edition of the beloved spy franchise, which has called everyone from Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan to Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton its lead.

But reports say that while Lynch will snag 007's famed code name, according to the New York Post, she's not technically the new Bond. Instead, she'll play a new character who takes over Bond's secret agent number after he leaves MI6.

Well this will probably mean the end of the Franchise.

Oh and I am going to totally pass on the next Bond movie.

goragrad14 Jul 2019 11:04 p.m. PST

I have been passing on Bond movies for some time.

No reason an agency wouldn't keep agent numbers.

Especially a movie agency…

I'm sure Mithmee will bore us all with his "agenda driven Hollywood" Deleted by Moderator.

The franchise is on life support. Everyone on "Spectre" phoned in their performances. Cristoph Waltz even admitted that his performance and the film were terrible.

So here's my conspiracy: the Broccoli Company know they have a moribund product on their hands. They want to shake things up and have a fresh take on a well known and tired franchise. This is all to entice more people into the theatres. That's the only conspiracy ever to emerge from Hollywood. The incessant need to make a profit.

Whether this tactic will succeed is another matter. Like goragrad, I've been skipping the Bond films for a while now.

If Bond retires then 007 is reassigned, and that's perfectly legit. 006s and 008s die all the time and come back again. Didn't Felix Leiter rise from the dead as well – but as a different actor?

If I can accept a dozen or so different men all being "James Bond" then why not accept a new 007 with a different name?

In any case this is likely to be 007 retires, 007 becomes a woman, 007 dies and Bond is called back to be 007 again.

How did the last ghostbusters do?

I can't recall the last Bond film I saw – I think it
had Pierce Brosnan as Bond.

Sorry, Bowman, but there is a vast conspiracy in
Hollywood – the entertainment industry in general,
actually.

As George Lazenby observed,"This never happened to the other fellow." ;^)

Yes, time to bring back the original Big-Screen James Bond: David Niven!

Sure, he'll have to be done by CGI, but "Bond comes back" is exactly the plot (well, part of it, anyway) of the 1967 Casino Royale.

mrwigglesworth15 Jul 2019 8:53 a.m. PST

Well it worked so well with Doctor who.

My only comment is to wonder if there will be 'Bond Boys' taking the place of the Bond girls.in the age of "Me too' – her name will supposedly be "Nomi" so "…the name's Nomi , just Nomi "

Bowman15 Jul 2019 3:39 p.m. PST

How did the last ghostbusters do?

It was terrible. If it had male actors with the same script, director, etc, it would also have been terrible. What's your point?

Bowman15 Jul 2019 3:43 p.m. PST

Yes, time to bring back the original Big-Screen James Bond: David Niven!

But not Woody Allen as Jimmy Bond?

Anyways, hardly the original. Connery played Bond 5 times as of 1967.

My only comment is to wonder if there will be 'Bond Boys' taking the place of the Bond girls.

That already happened with For Your Eyes Only. Remember Tula?

I think the last Bond movie I saw had a Duran Duran song in it.

I think the last Bond movie I saw had a Duran Duran song in it.

That's "A View to a Kill". It also had Grace Jones in it. Best. Bond. Villain. (and Villain's Henchman.) Ever. (Also, I was a big fan of Grace Jones' music. And Duran Duran.)

And for those of you who haven't seen Daniel Craig as Bond, go see Daniel Craig as Bond.

Patrick R16 Jul 2019 3:14 a.m. PST

Leave it to people to come up with some kind of conspiracy rather than plain economics driven by that Gordon Gecko staple : Greed.

Walk into any boardroom meeting it's still dominated by white guys, who just want to make money and don't care what they are making as long as it fills the coffers.

Have noticed China being mentioned a lot in movies and TV shows lately ? Big market of over a billion people.

And hold on to your hats folks because Africa is starting to boom, with millions of people already watching Netflix across the continent, it's one of their fastest growing markets.

As the rest of world starts to consume global pop culture it's no longer going to come from the a limited array of sources.

Girls are no longer about everything pink, Barbie and My Little Pony. Just follow the network of people who make art and cartoons and there are tens of thousands of female artists and cartoonists who put their girly heroic spin on things. The princess is no longer pretty and demure, she's an ass-kicking tattooed princess who can look pretty and demure for funsies.

I recall we had mentions of female 00x agents in some books in the 80's and 90's.

As long as they keep it well done, why not have a test, it's not like such things are irreversible and the diversity police will not batter down the door to burn all your classic JB007 DVDs …

irishserb16 Jul 2019 4:19 a.m. PST

I'd be fine with a spin-off movie in the franchise, or better yet, an entirely new story-line (and even better, standing on its own two feet), featuring a female agent. No problem at all, as long as it is well done.

But, the movies are known as James Bond movies From time to time, I have been asked, "Did you see the latest James Bond movie?" I have never been asked, "Did you see the latest 007 movie?" Never. The series isn't about a number, it is about a man. The series is about the MAN behind the number. James Bond is 007.

Reinventing "him" as a woman, detracts from the presentation of a female lead in such a role. The fact that she is being set on the foundation created by a male character, diminishes any social statement made by a woman in the lead role.

Even if the movie is great and the actress is outstanding in the role, her accomplishment is diminished, as she won't have built it from the ground up. She had a crutch, and any social statement made is betrayed.

And, Daniel Craig was an outstanding James Bond, even if some of the stories haven't been up to the task.

Old Wolfman16 Jul 2019 6:33 a.m. PST

Wonder if she'll still have the vodka martini;shaken, not stirred. And probably no slouch with the Walther PPK either. And likely we'll still hear Q begging to have his gadgets returned intact at the end of mission .

True that would be a better way to do this but…

It would not get rid of James bond being played by a White Actor, which is what they want to do.

My only comment is to wonder if there will be 'Bond Boys' taking the place of the Bond girls.in the age of "Me too'

No I figure that there would still be "Bond Girls" and she would be the one to get them.

Mithmee16 Jul 2019 12:29 p.m. PST

Did anyone actually read the article? Thought not.

Do you think that I would post it without reading it?

It states quite clearly what is going to happen.

Oh are you trying to bring up this?

In 2018, Morning Consult and the Hollywood Reporter conducted a survey asking 2,201 U.S. adults how they would feel about the fictional spy shifting demographics. The data revealed that 49 percent of American adults supported the idea of a black actor playing Bond. When asked if Elba should play the character, 36 percent of men and 43 percent of women surveyed said yes.

Now the question is…

What would the percentage be of a Black Actress playing Bond?

I think we are going to find out when her first movie bombs.

Tumbleweed Supporting Member of TMP16 Jul 2019 6:26 p.m. PST

IMO Casino Royale with Daniel Craig as Bond was the best ever. After that one I had high hopes the next ones would be as good. Craig was still good in all of the sequels, but the writing wasn't.

If you're a purist, the best way to go forward would be to go back and start all over and make them period-pieces with 1950's and 1960's sets, clothing and story lines. But contemporary audiences probably wouldn't like that, so the next best thing might be to make any new movies from this point on as realistic as possible.

Which brings us to the present development. How would a black female operative work undercover in the countries she would supposedly operate in? How would she fare in places like Saudi Arabia, Iran, North Korea, Russia or China? I think you already know the answer.

Tongue-in-cheek has been a hallmark of the series, but Lashana Lynch will turn it into slapstick comedy. Sometimes a really bad movie can be fun to watch, but I don't think for a moment that the Bond series core audience will get the joke.

Then again, maybe the producers deliberately want the movie to flop, just like Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder did in the comedy "The Producers." If that's the case, your first clue will be when they sign Madonna to sing the title song again.

Mithmee17 Jul 2019 12:25 p.m. PST

Thing is Mostel & Wilder "The Producers" became a hit.

Her movie as Bond will be nothing but a "Bomb".

GypsyComet19 Jul 2019 9:16 p.m. PST

Not sure why. This is just a retread of "Never Say Never Again", hopefully without also being a retread of Thunderball/Goldeneye.

CeruLucifus21 Jul 2019 4:12 p.m. PST

This is the meaty quote from the original link:

According to the story, Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond. However, in a "pivotal scene," he'll be called back from retirement and introduced to Lynch as the new 007.

"It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman," the source told the Daily Mail.

Doesn't sound so mind-numbingly different.

Mithmee21 Jul 2019 8:22 p.m. PST

From this it is the Bond for the Modern Era!\

YouTube link

Which means a Bond who is not a White Male.

Bond 25 might do okay but I and many others will not be watching it.

Not a major problem since I have around 25 other Bond movies that I can still watch.

Now Bond 26 will be a total Bomb.

Swampking23 Jul 2019 1:19 p.m. PST

"… stunning woman." Ah, no, that's a matter of opinion. If she's so 'stunning' how come no one knows who she is?

Frankly, the Bond franchise has been on major life support for quite a long time. Typical Hollyweird, just because 'Black Panther' was a smash means that all commercials, TV shows, and now, movies like Bond (which cater to a majority male demographic) have to have 'womyn of color' in the lead roles, even if they are unknowns. Frankly, I'd rather see Priyanka Chopra as a Bond villain, not some actress no one on this side of the Atlantic knows as a Bond-ish type lead.

As for Hollyweird making money off this dreck, doubt it. How many femi-idiots will go see it or drag their 'soy boy' friends to see it?

Mithmee25 Jul 2019 12:20 p.m. PST

'soy boy' friends

Now that is a bit harsh.

But when the movie bombs because the individuals who would have watch it don't then maybe they will get a clue.

Mithmee20 Aug 2019 12:40 p.m. PST

Well the name for this Bond movie will be:

No Time to Die

Though that is what will happen to the whole thing.

Mithmee04 Dec 2019 1:27 p.m. PST

The trailer is now out for this.

What the lackluster box office performances of recent female-driven action movies like 'Ghostbusters,' 'Tomb Raider,' 'Terminator: Dark Fate' and 'Charlie's Angels' tell us is that the SJW's of Hollywood can't force men to watch women in roles that are traditionally the preserve of men. Based on what we've seen and read here I'm afraid James Bond will be no different.

Like it or not, men are still by far the predominant demographic of moviegoers who go see action movies. Despite its best efforts, Hollywood can never attract enough women to make up for the lost number of men who are turned off by action movies starring women in lead roles.

Of course, there are notable exceptions such as 'Captain Marvel' and 'Wonder Woman,' but those are roles that are supposed to be filled by women to begin with and are furthermore part of extremely popular comic book franchises. They are essentially boycott-proof because men will see them regardless, even if grudgingly.

Mithmee05 Dec 2019 6:43 p.m. PST

This one looks like it will have Bond doing most of the load but that could be only the trailer.

But the new black female Double "00" wouldn't get the job done so they bring James out of retirement.

So this one will do okay but the next one with just her is going to bomb.

Asteroid X07 Dec 2019 7:54 p.m. PST

If they could only just come up with some inventive new ideas …

They want to think "safe" and so they go with an idea/concept that has been a proven money-maker then want to port it to potentially get a new demographic in the hopes they may make some money (it is ultimately about profits).

Yet, continually these ideas bomb. Clearly there is no objective review of the methodologies used herein.

I would highly suspect there is an agenda driving the push for a great deal of these "concepts" in new movies.

Over time, these SJW's will lose their influence when it is finally determined what concepts it actually was that drove the traditional movie-going demographic away and of how those it did apparently attract are not worth pandering to.

All indoctrination aspects, aside, time will tell and either society will literally be in hell in an handbag or the mainstream studios will suffer huge losses and fold, wake up to reality or be replaced.

Mithmee08 Dec 2019 10:23 p.m. PST

If they create the next Bond movie with just a Black female Bond it will.

Bomb

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP17 Dec 2019 5:29 p.m. PST

To be fair 28mmFanatik "Laura Croft-Tomb Raider" was always destined to have a female lead. It's a movie based on a very successful & popular computer game of the same name.

Mithmee18 Dec 2019 1:22 p.m. PST

True the others movies along with that one still bombed.

Just waiting for Bombshell to…

Bomb

Mithmee16 Jan 2020 7:11 p.m. PST

Well it is looking like the Producers are coming to their senses and…

James Bond will and always will be a…

Man

link

Probably this decision will save the franchise since if they went fill on PC and turned James Bond into Jane Bond the individuals who would most likely see these movies (I.E. men) wouldn't.

"He can be of any color, but he is male," Broccoli told the outlet.

Idris Elba, Idris Elba, Idris Elba….

Mithmee17 Jan 2020 1:29 p.m. PST

I would go with Henry Cavill since Idris Elba is getting up there in years.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik17 Jan 2020 9:43 p.m. PST

Roger Moore was over 50 when he starred in his last five 007 movies. Cavill's Superman and The Man from UNCLE. I prefer another Henry, Henry Golding, if they go with the youth movement. A little diversity can't hurt.

Old Wolfman07 Oct 2020 10:08 a.m. PST

And they've decided to delay the release, once again,of "No Time To Die". I think they'll shelve it,JSMO there.

USAFpilot08 Oct 2020 7:40 a.m. PST

Bond was perfect for the 1960's, the height of the Cold War and communists were the bad guys. A time when smoking, drinking martinis, and sleeping around were cool. Lung cancer, AIDS, and political correctness killed Bond. About the only thing still acceptable from that era in today's society is the drinking. And young people seem to be enamored with communism. Roger Moore was the last of the good Bonds.
