This was my favorite film of the last 5-10 years. Psychological-Horror genre. Often compared to the Exorcist but very different.

It was the writer/ directors first movie. Worth checking out:

Here's the directors follow up. Just hit theaters:

Loved Hereditary! Looking forward to his new movie. In fact, if it wasn't that I was in transit to Historicon, I'd have caught it this weekend.

Know what was great about Heredity? No stupid jump scares! Did it even do well?

It made back 8x what they spent so that was a real win for a small company like A24.

I think it probably did it's real business online however. I think that's how most people discovered it.

Aside from no jump scares, or minimal, like you said, it also had Academy Award level acting from the Son and especially Toni Collette, the mother. Charlie, the daughter, was a stand out as well.

I can't recommend it enough for people who enjoy non-conventional horror movies.

Agreed. Excellent acting all around and an intelligent story that needs a slow simmer to develop. And how about that creepy little girl?

I mention jump scares because that is what typical audiences raised on Insidious, The Conjuring, Annabelle, Curse of Chucky and all the other "popcorn" horror films expect. It's nice to see a movie go the opposite direction.

I also really liked The Witch, which had similar pacing and was also criticized for it.

The Witch was really good too. Again, psychological over jump scare.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just finished watcing it. Superb! I saw the Witch a year or two ago. Also, excellent.

Would anyone mind explaining the ending to me? I think I got it but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks.

I loved Midsommer too. A slow burn inexorably moving towards a horrific climax. Those that hated Heriditery won't enjoy Midsommer. I'll be watching for more of his movies.

I saw the Directors cut of Midsommer. I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend it for fans of slow-burn type horrors.

Catavar, lots of good videos on Hereditary on YouTube Brother:
