Friday's Canadian Football League game between the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts finished in a game winning rouge after the BC kicker missed a 43 yard field goal.

The Ottawa Winnipeg game on Friday night had an even weirder play.

With about 10 minutes to go in the game Winnipeg was ahead 22-14 and punted on third down. The ball landed on the Ottawa three yard line but probably due to a soggy field did not bounce into the end zone which would have been a single provided the Ottawa player did not run it out. Given the score Ottawa's strategy was to give up the single for better field position.

The Ottawa return player did not touch the ball and was probably looking for a no yards call ( defender stay outside a 5yd yard circle) There is no fair catch or touchbacks in the CFL all kicks must be returned.

The ball bounced around a lot with the Winnipeg players staying outside the 5 yard limit. The no yards does not apply to the kicker so he ran down the field and into the 5 yard circle. The returner saw him and tried to grab the ball but missed it, the kicker slid against the ball knocking it out of bounds. (If he had kicked it deliberately he would have been penalized.) Since the kicker was the last player to touch the ball Winnipeg took possession on the 4- Two plays later they scored a touchdown (29-14) effectively ending the game

I have not seen anything like that in 60 years of watching and playing Canadian football

……finished in a game winning rouge….

You'll have to explain that to the NFL fans.

So Redblack, are you a RedBlack fan?
