"We're all familiar with the flashy, big-ticket organs: the heart, the brain, the lungs. Their celebrity often obscures the work—humbler, less heroic, but often no less essential to the maintenance of a life—performed by those organs only doctors know about: the body's back-up players, pulsing and pumping in relative obscurity. Not to mention the mid-tier organs, like the gallbladder, whose functions most of us only dimly comprehend, unless—or until—they start acting up…."

Haven't read the article yet but…..

Ask someone who had their gallbladder removed how they feel after a nice pizza or a juicy hamburger.

Our vestigial tissues are pretty useless as we evolved out of the need for some things.

While our spine is absolutely necessary for even the simplest activities, the last few bones, that constituted our vestigial tail, are rather useless. Until you fall skiing or snowboarding and bruise your tail section. Now that's miserable.

From most of the discussions on this board, I nominate the brain. Hey … can we make this a poll?!?!!?

I am with etotheipi on this.

For many it is the brain, since so many individuals have no clue that they have one.

Someone who has 30+ years of marriage under their belt may have a different answer…..

I only have 27 years of marriage experience, however, I can attest to the value of being able to let the brain idle in neutral every once in a while. I am fairly certain SWMBO would say the same. :)
